Cast change day

Fancy new cast

Silly scrunchy face

Paco and I took Molly in today to get a new cast and see how her hip is progressing. The doctor was very pleased with the progress her hip is making and said that it is very solid and looks normal on the scans. Because she is doing so well she will only have to have this cast on for four weeks. We will go in on Jan. 22nd and the doctor will take the cast off in her office and Molly will not have to be sedated for that. Once the cast is off she will have a brace to wear, but that will be removable for diaper changes and baths. So just a few more weeks and hopefully her hip will be back to normal and we can put put this fun adventure behind us.

Like Mother, Like Daughter?

Many people have told us that Molly looks a lot like her Mama, but I was a bit skeptical. So when I came across some of my old baby pictures I decided to try a side by side comparison. You be the judge...do we look alike?

Gingerbread House

Mommy and EJ putting the roof on our gingerbread house

EJ decorating the house

He did a wonderful job!

EJ and I had a wonderful time putting together this beautiful gingerbread house. He decorated the whole thing by himself and most of the candy actually made it onto the house. He had to sample a bit, but that is the best part of making a gingerbread house!

Watch her go!

Miss Molly might have casts on her legs, but that doesn't mean she can't move and groove around on the floor. Here are a few videos of how she has learned to get around, play with toys, and get into her brothers toys!

Ho, Ho, Ho

We braved the mall today to visit Santa. EJ was really excited and sat on his lap and gave him a great big hug. I think he was just buttering Santa up so he will bring him more GeoTrax!

A good doctors appointment

Molly had her 3 week check-up today with the pediatric orthopedist. The doctor was very pleased with how her cast was looking, which was a huge relief to me because it is so hard to keep the thing clean and dry with wet and poopy diapers in it all day and night.

Originally she was going to be in this cast for 6 weeks and then have a new cast put on around the end of the year. Today the doctor felt that she was growing just a little too quickly and that the hip looked fairly secure so they are moving the cast change up a week to December 22nd. So in less than two weeks we will be in the home stretch!

The best part about this new cast is that it will only go to above her knees on both sides. Currently her left leg is casted to above the knee, but the right side is all the way to the ankle. The new cast will allow her to kick both her legs and get her muscle tone back up in her right leg. The new cast will be on about five or six weeks and then she will be cut free!

She will have to wear a brace for a while after the casts are removed, but it will be removable for diaper changes and most importantly baths! We are all looking forward to the day when she has two healthy hips. Thank you all for your prayers and good wishes as we journey along with our hip adventure.

Adjusting to our new life

The afternoon the cast went on. Molly's cousin, Addison, came over to visit and play for a while. Molly is able to get up on hands and knees and even scoot around a bit.

Flexibility is the key to life:
She will no longer fit in the highchair in the traditional way, but if we sort of stick the full casted leg up on the side she can sit and eat no problem.

Her left leg only has a cast to above the knee so that left leg just kicks away!
